By 5.56 - 500m Championship

On Saturday the 4th of February, the Murray Bridge Rifle Club contested the 16th stage of the Club Championship over 500m at Monarto.

Shooters had to contend with a warm breeze that started from the left, changed to the right and then switched back again. This happened several times throughout the afternoon.

Most shooters struggled in these conditions.

Only one possible was scored by Captain of the Club, David McDonald, in his second round.

Greg Traeger was top off-rifle for the day and the winner in A Grade with a consistent pair of 49’s for 98.7.

Tony Dixon was the winner in B Grade with 95.4, in a tight competition from Bryan Robertson with 95.3 and John Cadd with 95.2.

Robertson’s score gave him the handicap win for the afternoon.

Peter Byass was the winner in F Class Standard “A” with a 107.3.

Jim Caspers was the clear winner in F Class Standard “B” with 111.6 and included a fine 57 in his second round.

This score also gave Caspers the Handicap win in the F Class section.

John Shobbrook was the winner in F Class Open with 112.5 including an outstanding 58.4 in his second round.

The top round for the afternoon was by Ian Pavy with 58.5 in his first round.

On Saturday the 21st of January, the Murray Bridge Rifle Club contested the 15th stage of the Club Championship over 800m at Monarto.

The hot weather did not bring with it easy conditions. Shooters found continual difficulty with the right wind as it did not stay the same for consecutive shots.

Gordon Harrison was top off-rifle for the day and the winner in A Grade with a low score of 92.4.

Mark Whittle was the winner in B Grade with 85.5.

John Elson continued his winning run in C Grade with 69.0.

Surprisingly the F Class shooters also found the conditions difficult, because when they looked down their scopes all they could see was a blur with the mirage moving continuously.

On Saturday 17th September, the Murray Bridge Rifle Club contested the seventh stage of the Club Championship over 800m at Monarto.

For most members this week’s shoot was a disaster and will not be counted in their final Championship score.

The weather was very warm with a strong and gusty wind blowing from the left. This caused difficulty for all of the shooters. Scores were the lowest many could remember for several years. Much laughter was heard as shooters saw even the top shots struggling in the conditions and seeing who would end up with the lowest score.
The wind later turned to the right and seemed to become even stronger. Quite late in the afternoon it eased slightly and some shooters had an easier patch of weather to contend with.

Top off rifle was Gordon Harrison with 94.4, including a 49.3 in his second round.
The only possible was shot by Club Captain, David McDonald; a 50.5 in his second round.
Janelle Traeger was the winner in B Grade with an 86.6.

For the second shoot in a row McDonald was the winner of the magpie award. No shooters escaped scoring at least one but McDonald managed to accumulate four. Bryan Robertson was the winner of the F Class magpie award and his unlucky number was three.

On Saturday the 9th of July, the Murray Bridge Rifle Club contested the second stage of the Club Championship over 700m at Monarto.

Again a light shower delayed the beginning of the shoot but all competitors made it through the afternoon without getting wet. A steady breeze blew from the right and this produced very high scores from all shooters.

Members of the Club could not remember the last time so many shooters scored so well on the one day.

Mark Whittle, David Mc Donald, and Robert Paech all shot Double Possibles

Unluckily in such ideal conditions two shooters managed to find the magpie (3) ring. Winners were Tony Dixon in full-bore and Keith Mathews in F Class both with one.

On Saturday the 2nd July 2011, the Murray Bridge Rifle Club began the new shooting season and the 1st stage of the Club Championship at 300m.

This season several changes have been made to the Club Championship – the Club has added some extra shoots and a new handicap system is in operation. This year also sees the introduction of the use of supercentres in F Class shooting and they will be counted in the scores in the same way that full-bore shooters use the V-bull.

The most outstanding shoot of the afternoon was by F Class Open shooter, Paul Janzso, who scored a perfect 120.15.

PJ60.8

Paul thinks things can't get much better !

This was made up of scores of 60.7 and 60.8. Amazingly he managed to get all his shots inside the diameter of a coffee mug and fifteen of those were in an area just bigger than a 50 cent piece.

Janzso’s score also saw him win the F Class Handicap award using only 40 per cent of his allotted amount to reach the limit of 140.

The breeze blew from the left and although a light shower delayed the beginning of the shoot all competitors made it through the afternoon without getting wet.

Most shooters achieved high scores in the gentle conditions.

Greg Traeger was the top off-rifle in full-bore and winner in A Grade with 99.16, including an excellent 50.9 in the first round. Traeger was also the winner of the Handicap award being the best of a group of seven shooters who reached the limit of 120.

John Cain was the winner in B Grade with a superb 97.7, in a narrow victory from Tony Dixon with 97.6.
Bob Love was the C Grade winner with a consistent 89.5.

Ian Pavy was the winner in F Class Standard “A” with marvellous 118.9.

Jim Caspers was the winner in F Class Standard “B” with 116.6.

The sighters’ awards were won by Love in full-bore with 19.2, Colin Kuchel in F Class Standard with 24 and Janzso in F Class Open with 22.
